Small Batch, Big Taste at Dorcol
Nestled in the up-and-coming area of Southtown , Dorcol distillery’s new, industrial look blends in with the old world charm of the area. But when you open the door, you enter into a world unlike anything else in San Antonio. The distillers, Chris and Boyan, have set up the distillery to serve multiple purposes. The small bar, stocked with countless bottles of Dorcol’s product – Kinsman Small Batch Apricot Rakia – along with fresh produce and enticing liquors, serves as a threshold to classic cocktail flavors such as a traditional Old Fashion, using Kinsman Small Batch Apricot Rakia in place of bourbon, to delightfully new cocktails such as the BDG Waffle, which is made with Rakai, egg, orange, maple syrup, and apricot jam (perfect brunch cocktail, anyone?). Surrounding the bar is a plush couch and chairs for patrons to relax while delving into their cocktails. Beyond the bar, the distilling room awaits – which can be transformed into an art gallery, wedding reception venue, or even an outdoor gathering space when the large garage door is open to the patio.
The distilling room houses the custom-made, hand-hammered copper pot in which the full-bodied spirit is distilled. The Apricots are delivered from Boyan’s family’s farm in Belgrade, where the idea for the apricot Rakai first came to Chris and Boyan’s mind. Rakai, a type of brandy, is a traditional Serbian spirit. Chris and Boyan have always loved to drink, and figured that their family history and resources, coupled with their general passion for alcohol would produce a great product – and they were right. The Kinsman Small Batch Apricot Rakia is a perfect blend of sweet and punch for a craft cocktail lover. The clear coloring and subtly sweet apricot flavor lend to various mixtures and flavor profiles to come from this one spirit. Although the rakia is the only product that Dorcol distillery currently has on the market, Chris and Boyan have their creative gears working, and are anxious for the next unique and versatile product to come from their line.
